Collaborative And History
The Laredo Homeless Coalition is a collaborative organization composed of public and private agencies and individuals that seek to educate, advocate, and assist those in homeless or at-risk of homeless circumstances.
The organization was originally an informal group that began meeting in the 1990s to respond to developing issues and set out plans for needed services. In 1999, the group leadership began taking steps to officially charter the organization and develop it into a non-profit, charitable organization.
The Laredo Homeless Coalition served as the organizational vehicle to develop and construct the first Bethany House Emergency Shelter, which was completed in January 2006. It operated the shelter until the spring of 2009, when the operations where transferred to Bethany House, who owned the facilities.
